Hey yall,
Just wanted to leave my fellow type 1 diabetics some tips for driving as I am about to get my lisence!
Always make sure you check your bloodsugar before you get behind the wheel, if your cgm isn't working make sure you do a finger prick and are 5 or higher.
Have glucose ready, just in case your bloodsugar crashes whilst driving keep some glucose in the glove box, make sure you always have enough to get you through a hypoglycaemia.
Awarness, if you start to feel dizzy, sweaty or zone out when driving safely pull over and check your bloodsugar. Even if your close to your destination it is not worth the risk.
45 minute rule, although this rule is hard to obey, after correcting a high bloodsugar it is reccomended that you don't drive for another 45 minutes giving the insulin time to work.
I hope this post helped you out! And stay safe on the road 🫡
